Why Eclecta Perennial?

LogoEclecta Perennial. It’s odd isn’t it? But so are we! ‘Eclecta’ is derived from ‘eclectic’, chosen because we derive our ideas, style and taste from a broad range of sources—even though our output is primarily fantasy novels. ‘Perennial’ was chosen because it means persistent or enduring. We want our writing to stand the test of time and incorporate the consistent and recurring wisdom found at the bottom of the big Truth.

Star Wars and Pride and Prejudice sit quite happily on our shelves, as do The Lord of the Rings and The Hunger Games, and the writing of Richard Rohr is a constant source of inspiration, often supplying just the insight I need for the scene I'm working on. We love the classics like The Count of Monte Cristo as much as James Cameron's Avatar—not to mention Avatar: The Last Airbender

Musical theatre is also one of our favourite things, with Les Mis and Phantom of the Opera at the top of the list, but we'd also never pass up seeing a Shakespeare. And don't even get us started on The Chosen. Seriously, if you haven't checked out the series, do yourself a favour. It's possibly the one thing that could induce us to live in the US.

But wisdom can be found in many places—The Matrix as much as The Chronicles of Narnia—and we want to draw from it all, and when it comes down to it, that's why we write fantasy. It's the perfect genre for drawing together wisdom from all these different sources and connect it back to our actual lives. That's why we have chosen as our mission statement to write fantasy that meets you in your reality.

If you find yourself a bit 'eclectic' in your tastes as well, let us know!
